December on the San Gabriel, 8x10, Gouache

Another from some reference photos taken in the Austin, Texas area in December.  This view of a limestone “sandbar” and the dead foliage, juxtaposed against the golden dry grass in the field beyond, captured my attention.  The winter trees and the cold water, along with the past high water debris, presented a challenge that I couldn’t resist.  The view is looking across the San Gabriel River where it passes through San Gabriel Park in Georgetown, Texas.
