Barn in Limited Palette

September 20, 2013

I can’t believe it’s been so long since I last posted here.  My apologies to everyone who follows this blog!  We are on the move again, so I’ll still be a bit off-and-on, but I have several new gouache paintings to share, and I’ll try to do that over the next week or so.

Barn in marengo1

Barn near Marengo, Ohio, 11×14, Gouache

Palette: yellow ochre, burnt sienna, titanium white, ivory black
This was my third version of this scene.  The first two were false starts that I just wasn’t happy with.  By then I was so familiar with this barn that I set up and just painted it from memory, with no photos or references.  The very limited palette was a lot of fun.

I really like this barn with the limited palette. Makes for interesting and challenging painting. Hope your travels are joyful.
