Late Winter Color

Late Winter Color, 11x14, Gouache

This was a lot of fun.  It’s an experimental nocturne, in that I used a daytime reference photo and created an evening scene, trying to catch that burst of color that occurs just before the sun drops below the horizon.  I may put just a touch more of that golden yellow into the face of the house and the snow.  It’s there, but doesn’t show up much in this image.  This house is near Mount Vernon, Ohio, and I painted it one other time, nearly three years ago.  I don’t paint many winter scenes, or nocturnes, but with temperatures above 100 degrees these days in Texas, it seemed like a good idea.

Now you know why I watch Christmas movies in the summer, and beach movies in the winter. Stay cool!
