In preparation for some new paintings, I did a half dozen or so small sketches last weekend. Here are three of them. These are all approx 4″x5″, working from images on the laptop. All are from reference photos I’ve taken on trips to Ohio.
This blog is dedicated to the art I make and the way I make it. Here you will find paintings, sketches and drawings, using gouache, acrylics, pencil, pen and ink, and watercolor. We live in a 36 foot 5th wheel RV trailer and you may find an occasional post about that as well.
You are so dedicated to your art that you are in turn inspiring to others. I need to discipline
myself after your good example. Loved these sketches and there are no excuses for not at
least drawing everyday. Even late in his life, Renoir was know to say that one should draw
every day to prevent getting out of practice, even if it was only a drawing of an apple.
Happy holidays! Pam
These are wonderful drawings. I was born and raised in Ohio and just moved back home. When will you be in Ohio again and will you be offering classes? Norena Fox
Hi Norena. We plan to be back in Mt. Vernon, Ohio in August for the Dan Emmett Festival. I appreciate the thought, but I don’t teach… at least not yet.
Very typical of the area I live in….the Ottawa Valley….I seem to be on the same path you have taken in that I want to sharpen my drawing skills….no pun intended.
I hope you don’t mind if I use these for some references….
Barn paintings still sell very well around here.
Brian, as I’m sure you understand, if you were copying more finished work, I’d have a copyright issue about it, but if you’re just using the little sketches for study and practice, I have no problem with it at all. However, it’s best if you work from photos you’ve taken yourself. You’ll have a better feel for the subject.
This is in line with my research and the website is Awesome with info.Good work!!
