First Place, Plano 125 Show

April 15, 2010

I’m delighted to report that my little painting “Reflections” won First Place in the Painting Category at the Plano Art Association’s 125 Show.  Although I entered it under the “watercolor” category, show officials apparently changed the category, so my gouache painting was in competition with oils and acrylics.  Since this little 9×12 painting was up against many very large paintings, mostly abstracts, I consider it a sign that representational realist art in small sizes can still make an impression in today’s art world.

That is a gorgeous painting, Ralph. I think your award speaks to the importance of a simple, strong, well-concieved composition. The piece really reads well from a distance. That’s an image you could live with.
